Defective Goodyear Tires Allegedly Cause Motorcycle Accidents

An investigative reporting agency called Reveal found that these tires were connected to 5 fatal accidents between 2006 and 2018. The unexpected tire blowouts allegedly injured an additional 22 bikers in the same period.
It All Happened So Fast
One man was celebrating his 26th wedding anniversary by taking his wife on a joyride down the cost when the D402 tire on his Harley popped without any warning. The blowout caused the 59-year-old motorcycle enthusiast to lose control of his vehicle. His wife of 26 years did not survive the accident.
Devastated, the motorcycle crash’s sole survivor filed a lawsuit against Goodyear. So far, the company has settled 8 cases but faces lawsuits from nearly all 5 of those who were bereaved and all 22 of those who were injured. Three of these suits were still pending in court as of May 2018.
Deaths and Injuries Warrant an Immediate Investigation
When interviewed by Reveal, a former NHTSA official stated the following:
“Five deaths and 22 injuries from the same tire on motorcycles made for Harley-Davidson is a significant number and warrants an immediate investigation by the NHTSA [National Highway Traffic Safety Administration].”
Unfortunately, Goodyear has been able to continuously shirk its responsibility. Allegedly, the company has well-known problems with manufacturing, which have been highlighted by expert witnesses in countless trials. Goodyear has lost the majority of its settlement negotiations, but its small financial losses are not enough to justify the deaths of motorcyclists and the devastation of family members.
